May–June
Warm enough to swim on many days, festivals starting, and hotels below August rates. One of the two best windows.
September
Sea still warm, nights softer, and Cannes/Nice easier to walk. The other best window for most travellers.
July–August
Peak glamour, packed beaches, and prices to match. Book beachfront lodging in Nice far ahead if this is your only slot.
Winter
Milder than Paris, quieter museums, some hotels on reduced hours. Good for a city-and-coast break without swimming as the point.
