Seven days covers Paris plus one region. Fourteen days is the comfortable minimum for Paris, the Loire or Provence, and the Riviera without treating trains as the holiday.
7 days: Paris and the Loire
Spend four nights in Paris (Eiffel Tower, one major museum, a neighbourhood day, Versailles). Then two nights in the Loire — Chambord or Chenonceau, a village dinner, and a short cycle if the weather is kind. TGV or a hire car covers the hop from Paris.
10 days: Paris and Provence
Keep a three-night Paris start, then fly or TGV to Avignon or Aix. Base in the Luberon for markets, a lavender or vineyard day in season, and the Pont du Gard. This is the better first trip if you care more about villages than beaches.
14 days: Grand tour
Paris (3–4 nights), Loire (2 nights), Provence (3 nights), Riviera (3 nights), with travel days in between. Use TGV for the long legs; rent a car only where villages are the point (Provence, Loire). Monaco and Grasse work as Riviera day trips from Nice.
