Florence is the Renaissance as a walkable city: a striped cathedral, a gallery that holds Botticelli’s Venus, and a marble David that photographs never quite prepare you for. Two nights covers the Duomo climb and one major gallery. Three lets you add Oltrarno and Chianti without treating the Uffizi as a raid. Book the Uffizi and Accademia weeks ahead.

Things to Do in Florence

Climb the Duomo, one gallery morning, David, and a view from Piazzale Michelangelo.

Florence Travel Tips

Gallery bookings, church dress, and Uffizi-queue pockets.

Duomo, Uffizi and David

Brunelleschi’s dome is a climb (€30) and a skyline. Giotto’s campanile sits beside it. The Uffizi needs a timed ticket and three unhurried hours — Birth of Venus, Primavera, then leave before you hate Renaissance rooms. Michelangelo’s David at the Accademia is a separate morning; the unfinished Slaves are the quieter shock. Do not stack both galleries on the same legs.

Ponte Vecchio, Oltrarno and Chianti

Ponte Vecchio has carried shops since 1593; walk it, then cross into Oltrarno for dinner that is not on the gallery doorstep. Piazzale Michelangelo is the terrace view of the Duomo. Chianti — San Gimignano, Siena, a winery — is a full afternoon, not a gap between David and a train.

Getting in

Frecciarossa from Rome takes about 1.5 hours to Santa Maria Novella. Florence is walkable; taxis help with bags. Validate regional tickets in the yellow machines. The city is pickpocket-aware at Uffizi queues — phones in front pockets.
