Five nights covers one resort without treating the seaplane as the holiday. Seven days is the comfortable minimum for a Maafushi–Dhigurah hop. Ten days is when a Malé night and a quieter island stop feeling like logistics.
5 days: luxury resort
Fly to Velana, speedboat or seaplane to one island, stay. House reef, sandbank, spa, sunset cruise. Optional whale-shark or manta outing if the atoll matches. Indians: visa on arrival. Book December–January villas months ahead. A third night is the minimum; five is kinder.
7 days: local-island hop
The route most budget first-timers from India actually take: Maafushi (3 nights — bikini beach, sandbank, dolphins) → Dhigurah (2 nights — whale-shark mornings) → optional Thulusdhoo or a Malé night if the flight is late. Speedboats, not seaplanes. Modest dress off the beach. About ₹90,000–₹1,20,000 per person including flights is a realistic band.
10 days: villa plus a slower beat
Keep a 5-night resort core, then add a Malé culture morning and Hulhumalé, or a quieter local island — not a second seaplane atoll. Combining Baa and South Ari in 10 days is possible; it is rarely restful. A hire car does not exist here. The boat is the metro.
Insider tip: seaplanes fly in daylight only. A 9pm arrival into MLE plus a Baa villa is a Hulhumalé guesthouse, not a hero landing. Price transfers in the same spreadsheet as the room. Ready-made packages with prices sit on the Maldives travel guide itineraries list — the same eight trips as the destination page.
