Granada exists for the Alhambra — and then for the hill neighbourhoods that look back at it. Spain’s most visited monument sells out weeks ahead; book the official timed slot for the Nasrid Palaces the moment your dates are confirmed. Two nights is the minimum. Stay in the Albaicín if you want the floodlit palace from a terrace after dark.

Granada Travel Tips
Official Alhambra tickets, hills with luggage, and night views.
The Alhambra and Generalife
The Nasrid Palaces — stucco, tile, reflecting pools — are the visit. The Alcazaba fortress and the Generalife gardens above complete the ticket. You cannot linger in the palaces past your slot. Read the ticket rules: the Nasrid hour is strict. The rest of the complex is more flexible the same day.
Albaicín and Sacromonte
The Albaicín is the old Moorish quarter: white houses, cobbles, and miradors that face the Alhambra. Sacromonte, further along the hill, is cave houses and a flamenco tradition of its own. Walk up in the evening; the stones are steep and the views are the point. Do not try to “do” the Alhambra and a Sacromonte show on the same exhausted afternoon.
Getting in
Buses and some trains from Seville and Madrid; the journey is longer than the AVE sprints between Madrid, Barcelona, and Seville. That is why Granada needs its own nights. A day trip from Seville is how people miss the night view and rush the palaces.

Granada Travel FAQs
Two nights is the minimum: one Alhambra day and one Albaicín evening. Three nights is gentler and lets you add Sacromonte without stacking it on palace day.
As soon as your dates are fixed — often weeks ahead, longer in spring and autumn. Use the official site (alhambradegranada.org).
Technically yes; practically no on a first visit. The Nasrid slot, the gardens, and the night view need an overnight.
Albaicín for views and atmosphere; the centre for easier luggage and restaurants. Sacromonte cave houses if you want that stay on purpose.
Check official resale windows and early-morning remaining slots. Do not buy unmarked tout tickets at the gate. A guided small-group ticket from a reputable operator is the fallback, not a street hawker.
