Krabi is the Andaman as limestone: cliffs rising from emerald water, Railay reachable only by boat, and Ao Nang as the practical base. Many travellers find it more beautiful than Phuket. Two or three nights covers Railay and a Four Islands long-tail. Fly into Krabi (KBV) rather than adding a 12-hour bus from Bangkok. Pair with Phuket only if you have the nights — do not treat Railay as a hurried Phuket day trip.

Krabi Travel Tips

Long-tail fares, where to sleep, and flight buffers on the last day.

Railay and Ao Nang

Railay has no road. A 15-minute long-tail from Ao Nang is the arrival. Phra Nang Cave Beach and the viewpoint hike are the reasons to stay overnight on the peninsula rather than commuting. Ao Nang is the mainland strip: hotels, tours, and sunset on a more ordinary beach. Sleep in Ao Nang if you want restaurants; sleep on Railay if you want the cliffs when the day boats leave.

Long-tails, Phi Phi and Koh Lanta

The Four Islands snorkel (long-tail, ฿700–1,000) is the gentle Krabi water day. Phi Phi is reachable from Krabi as well as Phuket. Koh Lanta is the quieter island further south — a hidden-gem overnight if you have a 14-day Thailand trip. Weather on this coast follows the Andaman: November–April for reliable boats.

Getting in

Krabi Airport is 1 hour from Bangkok by air, then a taxi to Ao Nang. From Phuket, a 90-minute speedboat or a longer road transfer. The classic 10-day India itinerary often ends here after Chiang Mai. Book the internal flight CNX–KBV or BKK–KBV as you would Phuket — it saves a day of sitting.

For limestone scenery, yes. For nightlife, airports, and resort choice, Phuket is easier. Many trips use both: Phuket for flights, Krabi for the cliffs.

Long-tail from Ao Nang (about 15 minutes). There is no road. Agree the fare before you board, or use a hotel-arranged boat.

November to April, same as Phuket. Monsoon months bring rain and choppy long-tails.

Yes. Speedboats run from Ao Nang. Overnight on Phi Phi Don if you want to miss the day-trip crush at Maya Bay.
