Phuket is the easiest Andaman base: an airport, a Big Buddha, Wat Chalong, and speedboats to Phi Phi. It is not the prettiest island in Krabi province — Railay and Koh Lanta win that argument — but it is the one that absorbs a first-timer without a ferry puzzle. Three or four nights is enough for a beach, a temple morning, and one boat day. Stay in Kata, Karon, or Surin if you want sand more than Bangla Road.

Phuket Travel Tips
Where to stay, scooters, boat bookings, and jet-ski caution.
Beaches and Wat Chalong
Patong is the nightlife strip — useful once, exhausting as a four-night base. Kata and Karon are the family-friendly bays. Surin and Bang Tao suit resorts. Wat Chalong is the island’s most important temple: a hilltop complex under a clear-sky chedi, worth a morning even if you came for the beach. Cape Promthep is the sunset viewpoint; go early or accept the car park.
Phi Phi and Phang Nga Bay
A Phi Phi speedboat day (Maya Bay, snorkel stops, lunch on Phi Phi Don) is the classic outing from Phuket. Phang Nga Bay — sea canoe, limestone hong, James Bond Island (Ko Tapu) — is the quieter, stranger alternative. Do not stack both boat days back to back unless you enjoy 5am starts. Overnight on Phi Phi Don only if you want a slower island, not a longer queue.
Getting around and scooters
Grab works in tourist areas. Scooters (around ฿300/day) unlock Promthep and side bays if you already ride; Thai traffic is unforgiving and insurance must cover motorbikes. Internal flights from Chiang Mai or Bangkok take about an hour. The overnight bus is a false economy on a 10-day trip.

Phuket Travel FAQs
Three or four nights covers a beach base, Wat Chalong, and one Phi Phi or Phang Nga day. Two nights is a fly-in, fly-out. A week is for people who want the island, not a day-trip machine.
November to April is the Andaman dry season. May to October brings rain and rough seas — some boat trips cancel. Avoid August–October if swimming is the point.
Only if nightlife is the trip. Kata, Karon, and the west-coast resorts are kinder for beaches and families.
Yes — full-day speedboats are the standard. Overnight on Phi Phi Don if you want to swim after the day boats leave.
No if you use Grab and tours. Yes if you want Promthep and quiet bays on your own timetable — and only if you already ride well.
